WE ARE A MOVEMENT OF COLLEGE-AGE MEN AND WOMEN EARNESTLY FOLLOWING JESUS.
Our mission is to reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through spirit-filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and mission to transform the university, the marketplace and the world.
Chi Alpha was founded in 1953 at Missouri State University, formerly Southwest Missouri State University, and is on more than 300 campuses throughout the U.S. and around the world today.
Since coming to the University of Montana in 1987, thousands of students have experienced community, worship, and mission through UM Chi Alpha.
Doing life together.
Having a place to belong.
Asking questions and exploring the answers together.
Sometimes it is loud.
Sometimes it is silent.
It is always a powerful time of connecting with God.
Living a life that reflects our relationship with God in what we say and do.
On our campus, in our communities, in our world.
Anywhere that God calls us to.
Scott Barnett || Director
Scott joined staff with Chi Alpha (XA) Campus Ministries in 2001 and has been the XA Director at UM since 2002. He met his wife Anna Dulba while in Poland on a Chi Alpha missions trip. They were married in Poland in December of 2007 and had their first child Jakub (“Kuba”) in 2014.
Scott is an alum of The University of Montana, graduating with a B.A. in History, a B.A. in Journalism and is close to finishing his Master’s in History. While an undergrad, Scott had a radical encounter with God. This powerful experience not only transformed him, it also gave Scott a deep heart to minister to others so they could also know Jesus’ amazing love (Ephesians 3:17-19). Before joining Chi Alpha staff, Scott spent time as a college ministry intern at a local Missoula church, helped plant a church in Germantown, Wisconsin, and taught sixth grade at a Christian school in Milwaukee.
Scott loves music (especially the band U2!). He plays guitar and drums, likes to write songs on occasion and is always up for a fun road trip to see live music. He also enjoys snowboarding in powder, visiting unique coffee shops, and tubing on the Clark Fork River that runs through Missoula.
Bret Haidle || Associate Staff
Bret grew up in Ontario, Oregon. His life was powerfully impacted in 2008 while studying at Idaho State University and being involved in Chi Alpha student leadership. There Jesus transformed his identity and shaped him into a joyful man of God. He earned an Associate’s degree in Electronic Systems Technology and met his wife, Missy, through Chi Alpha. Bret and Missy married in July 2010 and began their life adventure together. Bret worked briefly as an electronics technician in Logan, Utah before returning to Idaho State to complete a Chi Alpha internship in 2013 and serve on Associate Staff for two years. God led him and Missy to move to Missoula in August 2015 and Bret joined Associate Staff at University of Montana January 2016.
Bret and Missy welcomed their son David into the world November 2016 and have loved experiencing all the blessing and lessons that parenthood has brought.
Bret’s passions include exploring the mountains, playing and moving to the music, being a big brother to students, adventuring with friends, and board riding of any persuasion.
Alyssa Lashway || Associate Staff
Alyssa was born and raised in Missoula. While she committed her life to Christ as a young girl, it was her junior year in high school (2009) when her passion for church became a true passion for God. She attended the University of Montana quickly got involved with Chi Alpha. It was there that she met her now husband, Caleb. Caleb spent most of his childhood in Madagascar where his parents were missionaries and came back to the family’s home state of Montana for college. It didn’t take long for them to realize that they were called to mission and both transferred to Liberty University Online, eventually earning her BA in Christian Leadership and Business Management. After getting married in 2014, God led Caleb and Alyssa to be volunteer staff with Chi Alpha for two years and now Alyssa is beyond blessed to call herself associate staff. Caleb continues to serve as volunteer staff while earning his degree in theology from Liberty University Online.
Caleb is passionate about wildlife biology and can identify any bird that comes his way. He is also a wealth of information concerning global affairs and history.
Alyssa is never happier than crocheting with a cup of tea, playing cribbage with Caleb, or when her home is full of students that she can cook for.
